Projected-image-experiments

2014, Mixed media: different methods for projection. Slide projector, lens, camera, diapositives, lantern etc. Developed in the ocassion of International Residency Program from JACA – Center of Art and Technology in partnership with Clóvis Salgado Foundation, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Projected-image-experiments discuss the projection mechanisms while discussing the deterioration and disappearance of the photographic images. It is composed of three distinct parts: the first it is to project the image of a mountain until it disappears, the second was to transform the apparatus of the camera on a projection device, and the third, finally, was the projector apparatus deconstruction.

In the case of project the image of a mountain until it disappeared, as long as the projector remained continuously connected, the warmth and luminescence provoked deterioration in the film. Consequently, the picture had dramatically changed its chromatic field and then began its continuous process of erasing. It is interesting to consider that the same apparatus (projector) that causes the image survival is the same device of its destruction.

A documentation 36 frames

2014. Printed publication. 10,5x 15cm.

A documentation in 36 frames is one of the works that compose an essay about the photographic image developed during the residency at JACA - Center of Art and Technology in partnership with Clovis Salgado Foundation, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The project started from the question: would it be possible to think of a photographic work from ever-made pictures? To reflect on the issue, I decided to focus on photographic actions that would discourse about the absence of the image, aiming to create a kind of inventory of what cannot be photographed.

In this artist’s book is possible to see a number of textual sentences that suggest memories, concepts and sensations, but that couldn’t be easily thought or transformed as figures or pictures. Coupled to the text, an unexposed photographic film has undergone through all the development (chemical processing revelation), enlargement and scanning, frame to frame, to compose the references for each sentence. Therefore, the sentences suggest a content of one from the 36 frames, which are shown empty to the reader’s eyes.
